Chapter 15
“Take me with you.”
The words echoed in his ears like a blissful melody, weakening his resolve. “You don’t know what you’re asking,” he mocked. She was asking him to lead her down the road to ruin and past the stone pillar that said there was but one mile to disgrace.
He made the mistake of lifting his gaze from the floor and she gave him a flirtatious smile. The look suggested he was wrong and she knew exactly what she was asking. The thought caused his manhood pulse, urging him to reconsider and to give her everything she wanted, everything he had.
“Take me,” she whispered moving a step closer towards him. The sexual implication of her words conjured an image of her lying naked beneath him, of him settling between her sweet thighs.
With a heavy sigh, he looked to the heavens waiting for the Divine to respond to his predicament and give him the strength to decline such a delicious invitation.
But he was too late.
Darkness descended.
The voice of sin sounded so tempting. Forcing him to acknowledge the pleasure that stood a mere arm’s length away, telling him that the climax of their joining would satisfy on a much deeper level than he’d ever experienced before. Fear gripped him as he considered the possibility he may never placate the craving that consumed him, that he would always want her as desperately as he did at that moment.
As doubt crept in once more, the voice in the darkness quashed his concerns. Reminding him they were betrothed; that in giving her virginity she would be more inclined to give her hand and then he would be free to experience her delights as often as he liked.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” he asked weakly, praying that she’d not had a change of heart.
She took the last anxious step towards him, stood on the tips of her toes and brushed her lips against his. “I’m sure,” she whispered softly and his body rejoiced in anticipation of all that awaited him. As he drew the edges of her cloak together to protect her modesty, she said, “You’re going to tell me you walked here, aren’t you?”
Lucas shook his head. “No, my carriage is waiting outside the tobacconist. But I suggest you pull up the hood.”
She did as he asked, linked her arm with his and they walked through the mews as if setting out for a leisurely stroll and not preparing to indulge in an illicit affair.
When they passed the groom, the man kept his head low and continued with his work. “You’d be amazed at how much it costs to render a man mute,” Lucas said keeping his eyes fixed firmly ahead.
“Then for your sake, I hope it will be worth it,” she countered playfully.
“I would pay a hundred times more just to gaze upon your face,” he replied truthfully and she laughed as if he was being dramatic purely to tease.
Once safely settled in the gloomy confines of the carriage, his head fell back against the seat as he tried to calm his wild, erratic thoughts.
